Two challahs (or any nice bread, if you can't find challah). Wine or grape juice. A meal that's already cooked before sunset. Candles. The blessings printed on a card. That's it.

The minimum

Two challahs (or any nice bread, if you can't find challah). Wine or grape juice. A meal that's already cooked before sunset. Candles. The blessings printed on a card. That's it.

A simple flow

Light candles. Welcome people. Sing or skip Shalom Aleichem. Make Kiddush over the wine. Wash hands. Make Hamotzi over the challah. Eat. Talk. Don't rush. Linger over dessert.

What to talk about

Pick one good question. "What was the hardest moment of your week? The best?" "What's something you're grateful for?" One question can carry a whole meal.

You don't have to be perfect

Your first meal will not be polished. The blessings will be slow. The food might be cold. None of it matters. The meal matters.

Your turn
